The 2015 Muddy Creek National and the forth round of the 2015 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship saw the Minnesota boys—Red Bull/KTM’s Ryan Dungey and Star Racing/Yamaha’s Jeremy Martin—get their second-straight overall wins, and stretch their leads in the 250MX and 450MX Championships. Even more astonishing than two Minnesota boys leading the series is both of them earning exactly 175 points over the first four rounds. In the 450MX class, GEICO/Honda Eli Tomac’s early exit from the series with a shoulder injury left Dungey alone atop the points with a 37-point lead over RCH/Soaring Eagle/Suzuki’s Ken Roczen, while Martin stretched his lead over Red Bull/KTM’s Marvin Musquin to 6 points.

In the fastest lap time battle at round four, it was Ryan Dungey recording the fastest lap of the day (1:52.352) for the first time in 2015. In the first three rounds it was all Tomac, but some think it was that speed that sent him into an early off season. The second fastest time (1:52.855) was laid down by Roczen en-route to his moto two win and the third fastest lap (1:54.493) was clocked by Honda Racing’s Cole Seely—over two full seconds off of Dungey’s fastest lap.

Dungey had the fastest lap in both motos, but surprisingly both he and Roczen’s fastest laps were recorded under the gnarly second moto conditions. Roczen struggled to a third place finish in moto one and was a completely different rider in moto two. Not only did he win moto two, he also recorded the best average lap time (1:55.448) of the day on the chewed up circuit. Hopefully the #1 can carry that moto two momentum into High Point and make this 450MX Championship more interesting.

In the 250MX class, Musquin was on a mission to knock the Jeremy Martin train off the tracks, but a mistake in moto two ruined that plan. In qualifying, Martin qualified first, but from the drop of the gate in moto one, it became obvious who had all the speed in Muddy Creek. Musquin recorded the fastest lap of the day in moto one (1:56.331) and the second fastest lap for moto two (1:56.550), but a crash in moto two left the #25 coming back from last place. In the end, Musquin was able to come back to 4th in moto two, but his 1-4 to Martin’s 2-1 lost the Frenchman four points in the Championship.

The second (1:56.544) and third (1:56.752) fastest laps of the day were thrown down by two rookie speedsters: GEICO/Honda’s Jordon Smith and Star Racing/Yamaha’s Aaron Plessinger. Both showed incredible speed, but Smith was only able to convert that speed into an 11th overall while Plessinger finished with a career-best 6th overall after leading seven laps of moto two. J. Martin was only able to lay down the 4th fastest overall lap (1:56.888), but he scored fastest average lap time of the day (1:58.818), the overall win and has the red plate heading into High Point.
