The 2015 Unadilla National and the tenth round of the 2015 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship was won by Red Bull/KTM’s Ryan Dungey in the 450MX class, and we saw a brand new winner in the 250MX class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy. For Dungey, his fifth overall win of the year came via a dominant 1-1 performance while Savatgy got his first-ever win with a consistent 2-2 performance on the day. In the Championship pictures, Dungey now leads JGR/Autotrader.com/Toyota/Yamaha’s Justin Barcia in the 450MX Championship by seventy-nine points, and with Red Bull/KTM’s Marvin Musquin finishing second overall and Star Racing/Yamaha’s Jeremy Martin finishing third overall in the 250MX class, the #1 now leads by a mere two points in the 250MX Championship fight.

In the lap time battle, it was RCH/Suzuki’s Ken Rozen setting the fastest lap of the day (2:12.928) while trying to catch Dungey in the second 450MX moto. Most of the riders in both classes set their fastest laps in the first motos of the day, but both Roczen and Dungey were pushing the pace hard in moto two. While pushing to stay in front of the #1, Dungey ran the second fastest lap of the day (2:13.552). In the end, Dungey hung on for the moto two win over the German, but Kenny finished just one second behind the #5 and showed his improved fitness with the fastest average lap time (2:14.533) of the day to compliment his fastest overall lap time. A first turn crash in moto one that resulted in a broken front brake and a 16th place finish, ruined Roczen’s overall score on the day.

The third (2:14.741), forth (2:14.845) and fifth (2:14.996) fastest 450MX laps were set by GRMX/Autotrader.com/Yamaha’s Justin Barcia, Rockstar/Husqvarna’s Christophe Pourcel and Honda Racing’s Trey Canard. Barcia and Canard both set their fastest laps on the smoother moto one Unadilla circuit, but like Roczen and Dungey, CP377’s fastest lap came in moto two. In moto one, Pourcel crashed in the first turn with Roczen and destroyed his factory Husqvarna. The Frenchman was only able to fight back to a twenty-third place finish in the opening moto and finished the day twelfth overall with a 23-3 score. Barcia went 2-4 for second overall while Trey grabbed his first podium of the year with a 3-6 scorecard.

Like in the 450MX class, the 250MX class set most of their fastest lap in the opening moto. The fastest overall 250MX lap of the day (2:14.295) was set by Jeremy Martin. In moto one, Jeremy got off to his normal slow start but fought his way around the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s of Savatgy and Chris Alldredge for the moto one win. Savatgy led most of the opening moto and set the second fastest lap (2:15.246) of the day while trying to sprint away for the win. There wasn’t much to separate riders at Unadilla, and from Savatgy’s fastest lap to the eighth fastest lap—Jordon Smith (2:15.789)—there was only a half second in between.

The third (2:15.329), fourth (2:15.405) and fifth (2:15.417) fastest laps in New York were laid down by Musquin, GEICO/Honda’s Christian Craig and Troy Lee Designs/KTM’s Jessy Nelson. All three set their fastest lap in moto one while battling for a top five finish. For Musquin, he was battling for a podium, but a broken goggle lens forced him to settle for a fourth in the opening moto. The #25 battled back to win moto two, and with J. Martin stuggling in moto two, Musquin made up two points with his second overall. Nelson had a solid day going 6-4 for fourth overall, and Craig could only convert his speed into a 10-5 score for seventh overall.
