The 2016 Anaheim 2 Supercross and round three of the 2016 Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM World Championship series, went back to Anaheim, California’s Angel Stadium for the last time of the year. With another good crowd in Anaheim watching, Red Bull/KTM’s Ryan Dungey won the 23rd 450SX main event win of his career and his second-straight of ’16. In the 250SX main event, the defending Western Regional 250SX Champion, Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Cooper Webb, was challenged harder than he’s been all season but was still able to win his third-straight and remains undefeated. Both defending Champions will unload their bikes in Oakland with their #1’s over a red background next Saturday night.

In the battle for fastest 450SX lap time at the Anaheim 2 SX, that honor goes to the same man that had the fastest lap at A1, Monster Energy/Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac (57.202). Eli not only repeated his fastest lap performance from A1, he also finished fourth for the third-straight week. Eli was in the race for a podium spot, but he crashed while trying to pass Monster/Yamaha’s Chad Reed for second and gave up the podium spot to RCH/Soaring Eagle/Suzuki’s Ken Roczen—who had the second fastest 450SX lap time (57.432) and the fastest average 450SX lap time (58.551). While Kenny was not in the race for the win, he seems like he is in a good place heading to Oakland.

The third (57.472), fourth (57.945) and fifth (58.067) fastest times of the night were clocked by Ryan Dungey, Chad Reed and Red Bull/KTM’s Marvin Musquin. Ryan was a tick off of Tomac for the fastest lap and even closer to Roczen for the fastest average lap (58.607), but a good start and aggressive moves early netted him the main event win over Reedy. Musquin’s finishing with the fifth fastest 450SX lap time and sixth (59.279) fastest average lap saved his night in Anaheim. The #25 blew the first turn, started dead last and converted that speed into a come-from-behind ninth place finish.

When someone in your class is going as fast as Cooper Webb (#1) is, you have to do whatever you can to rattle his confidence. Christian Craig (#38) may have just delayed the inevitable here. Photo by: Devin Davis

In the 250SX main event, the fastest single lap time (57.597) and the fastest average lap time (59.767) trophy waz handed out to Cooper Webb for the third-straight week. Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy had the second fastest lap (58.552); unfortunately, it was nearly a full second shy of Cooper’s lap time. If Joey, Rockstar/Husqvarna’s Zach Osborne or GEICO/Honda’s Christian Craig are going to stop Webb from steamrolling the season, they better hurry up. The #1 has already stacked up an eighteen-point lead in the Championship.

The third (58.710), fourth (58.875) and fifth (59.550) fastest lap in the 250SX main event were logged in by Osborne, Craig and GEICO/Honda’s Jimmy Decotis. Both Craig and Osborne kept the defending Champ honest at A2 and are gaining confidence with every main event.
