The 2016 Arlington Supercross and round seven of the 2016 Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM World Championship series, headed to the home of the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas for the Arlington Supercross. In the 450SX main event, RCH/Soaring Eagle Suzuki’s Ken Roczen outlasted Red Bull/KTM’s Ryan Dungey in a one-on-one, twenty-lap battle for the win while Star Racing/Yamaha’s Cooper Webb stopped the bleeding with the main event win in the 250SX class. Kenny was able to cut three points off of Dungey’s lead in the 450SX Championship, and Cooper took an eleven-point lead heading into the Western Regional 250SX Championship break thanks to a crash and tenth place finish by Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawsaki’s Joey Savatgy.

In the battle for fastest 450SX lap time (50.625) and the fastest average lap time (51.488) at AT&T Stadium, both those honors went to Roczen. The #94 got out front early and was passed by #1, but Kenny went right back to the lead and never let go of it. Dungey and Roczen were the only two riders on the night under 51 seconds, and Dungey was just a tenth off (50.754) in both the fastest single lap and the fastest average lap (51.581) categories. The #94 and the #1 were in their own world in Arlington and, at the end of the twenty lap main, were nearly twenty seconds ahead of the third place rider, Rockstar/Husqvarna’s Jason Anderson.

The third (51.014), fourth (51.176) and fifth (51.259) fastest times of the night were clocked by HRC/Honda’s Cole Seely, Monster Energy/Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac and Anderson. Anderson was the fifth fastest rider on the night, but he used consistent laps—third fastest average lap time 52.388—to carve his way forward from another of his trademark bad starts and catch and pass Seely for third with the laps winding down in the main event. Tomac, who like Anderson is known for his bad starts, also had to use his speed to charge forward. Tomac rounded the first turn around tenth and crossed the line with a fifth on the night.

In the 250SX main event, the honor of fastest single 250SX lap time (51.705) went to GEICO/Honda’s Christian Craig while he was leading and trying to sprint away from Webb—who had the second fastest single lap (51.875) and fastest overall average lap time (52.529). Craig’s plan worked early in the main, but you will notice in the graphs below, from lap twelve on, the #38’s lap times fell off and Webb went to the front.

The third (52.064), fourth (52.218), and fifth (52.420) fastest laps in the 250SX main event were logged in by Rockstar/Husqvarna’s Zach Osborne, Joey Savatgy and Cycletrader/Yamaha’s Colt Nichols. Zach kept Webb in sight for the first half of the main event, but as Webb clicked it up a gear to chase down Craig, Osborne lost the tow of the #1. For Savatgy, he had the speed to win in Arlington, but a crash while battling for the lead forced him to use that speed to salvage tenth place points.

Just as it looked like the momentum had swung over to Savatgy, a crash and a tenth place finish leaves him eleven points behind Webb in the Championship.
