It’s amazing to think how many riders go into this year’s MXGP championship with a Grand Prix victory. How about 21 riders who have tasted the top step of a GP podium.

Of course, leading the way is Antonio Cairoli who has an amazing 77 GP wins. His first was way back in Namur in 2004, some 13 years ago. Jeffrey Herlings is closing in on the legendary Sicilian, with 61 GP wins, and in third place in the current rider list of GP winners, it’s Clement Desalle with 20.

Below is the list. A total of 21 riders with 266 GP wins to their names, of which Cairoli and Herlings of course have more than half with a combined 138 wins.

Of course also a lot of world titles in the group. Sixteen in total, with Cairoli holding eight, Herlings three, Tim Gajser two, Romain Febvre, Jordi Tixier, and David Philippaerts one each.

What a contrast to the MX2 class, that has one GP winner in American Thomas Covington, and two riders who have won motos (Covington two and Pauls Jonass one)
