Red Bull KTM Factory rider Jeffrey Herlings has had a big crash in the first corner of the Italian International and DNFed the race. More later.

“He hit the ground hard and the hit his shoulder first and then somebody ran over him,” mentioned the KTM team manager Dirk Gruebel, “But for the moment he seems alright.”

From memory the position in the MXGP race counts for the MXGP/MX2 moto, meaning Herlings is probably out of the day, if he is not injured. It has been confirmed, Herlings hasn’t qualified for the Superfinal. So out for the day.

“It isn’t too bad,” Joel Smets said. “He crashed in the start and somebody rode straight into him, his back is bruised and a little bit of skin off, but it isn’t too bad.”

The MXGP moto started with a massive crash as Jeffrey Herlings went down hard. Cairoli led from Anstie, then came Febvre, Van Horebeek, Simpson, Butron, Paulin, Febvre, Lupino, Monticelli, Leok, Coldenhoff, Krestinov, Jasikonis. Herlings was out of the race.
