Almost every time a rider suffers a very serious or near catastrophic injury we hear rumors that they may be calling it a career, and we heard a lot of that after Cole Seely went down hard during the 2018 Monster Energy Supercross series. Cole definitely contemplated hanging it up, but since he has begun to get his physical and mental strength back those thoughts have passed. The #14 is now 100% focused on his return to racing in 2019.

“I know there was quite a bit of talk about me retiring next year,” Cole Seely said from Instagram yesterday. “Truthfully I did need to do a little soul searching. Now that I have my head on straight and can think clearly after my injury I do plan on making a comeback to racing. Not only that but come back faster and stronger than before with a little more knowledge and perspective on life and racing. You can doubt me, count me out, or underrate me but I’ll be back to make a statement soon enough. Thanks to those who stood by me and I hope this clears things up.”

If you’re doubting Cole can come back “faster and stronger,” you might be in for a surprise. While injuries are the worst part of this sport and you never wish them on anyone, some times the time away from racing turns out to be a blessing in disguise and a much needed break from the grind. If Cole is re-signed by the HRC / Honda for 2019, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the #14 right back in the mix up front.

We talked to an HRC team rep earlier this year and they told us that they are 100% behind Cole and will remain behind him no matter what he chose to do after his recovery. We know things change, but they love Cole over at Honda and consider him the perfect employee. Either way, I am pumped to hear Cole is doing well and focused on his return to racing.
