Weston Peick has been a workhorse for the Autotrader / JGRMX / Suzuki team in 2018. The #34 has been nursing a painful torn tendon is hand for much of the year, but with the team struggling with injuries Weston has just done what he has always done: suit up, suck it and put in solid results for his team. And that is part of the reason Weston will likely be back with JGR in ’19 and beyond.

With just one round left to go and rumors floating around that he is already re-signed with JGR for 2019, the team and Weston have decided now is the time to have his hand fixed. It’s a smart move and will allow him enough time to prepare fully for the 2019 season. We are hearing there is a strong likelihood that Chad Reed will be filling in at JGR for Weston this weekend at Ironman MX, but we are still waiting—and hoping—for that press release to hit our inboxes.

Weston in currently 6th place in the Championship and likely to get passed by both Phil Nicoletti (9 points behind Weston) and Benny Bloss (13 points behind Weston), but the difference between finishing 6th or 8th in the Championship is really inconsequential. What is most important at this point is giving himself the best shot at coming into A1 next year healthy and fully prepared.

After his final race of the year at Budds Creek was in the books, MotoXAddicts’ Chase Yocom caught up with Weston to talk about his performance at Budds Creek, what he is getting fixed in his surgery and a solid 2018 season.
