Most of you know by now that Ryan Villopoto‘s father, Dan Villopoto, passed away unexpectedly last week of a massive heart attack. Even still, RV2 announced from Instagram that he would be racing this weekend’s 2018 AUS-X Open and dedicating the race to his father’s life. The last thing RV and his dad did together was prepare for this race and he wanted to race it in his memory.

Unfortunately, it sounds like RV2 had some other unforeseen issues come up and he will be sitting out tonight’s race. “I just want to share a note with the AUS-X Open fans to sincerely apologize as I will not be there today, RV said from Instagram. “As you all know the last week has been incredibly difficult on myself and my family. I was super excited to race in Sydney and have been working hard to be in the best shape I’ve been in years. I really wanted to race down there, but with all that happened as well as an unforeseen issue, I have to remain home with my family. I realize a lot of people put tons of work into helping me get there and to make it super special therefore I deeply want to express my appreciation. I promise to make it up to everyone down under. Thank you for all your ongoing support see you soon.”

This is totally understandable and we want to wish Ryan and his family well during this tough time. RIP Dan Villopoto.
