After winning the MXGP qualifying race on Saturday and finishing 3rd in the opening MXGP moto on Sunday at the 2019 MXGP of Argentina season opener, Monster Energy / Yamaha factory rider Romain Febvre had a big high-speed crash while 3rd late in moto 2. The former World Champ immediately showed signs of something being wrong in his lower leg area and he went on to suffer a DNF in the final moto due to not being able to continue after the crash.

Today, Romain sent out an update after going to the hospital: “Well, the weekend start very good! 1st in time practice, 1st in qualifying race and 2 good stars on Sunday, finished 3rd the first moto after few small mistakes and was running 3rd again on second moto, but had a crash. Twisted very bad my ankle, still don’t know exactly what I got because it was to big to see it properly! Have some exams on Wednesday back home! Thanks for the support.”

Update: 3/6/19 – Romain originally posted that he did know the extent of his ankle injury because it was too swollen for the doctors to get a good look at in x-rays, but today Romain updated us all on the extent of his injury and it’s not good,

“Sad news: Broken talus, clearly, I’m now discussing with doctors to have few opinions to see if surgery will be necessary or not! You can imagine how I feel now, no words needed…! Will keep you update for the following news. Thanks to all the people who send me some wishes… Thanks to all my sponsors who got my back!”

With a broken talus and just two and a half more weeks before the next MXGP, we suspect that the #461’s bid to regain his MXGP World Championship that he lost in 2016 is over. As Romain said, we will update you more when we get more news from Romain and the Monster Energy / Yamaha MXGP team.
