One of the biggest surprises of the 2019 Monster Energy Supercross series is Monster Energy / Yamaha’s Justin Cooper in the 250SX east. Justin raced one SX in 2018 before getting injured so we cannot call 2019 his official rookie season but he is a rookie none the less. With that, we would expect mistakes and inconsistency from the 2017 AMA Horizon Award winner (award given to top amateur in the nation), but that is the exact opposite of what we have seen from the #32 so far.

Over the first six rounds of the 2019 Eastern Regional 250SX SX Championship series, Justin has six top fives, four podiums and he currently sits third in the point standings—just 2 points behind 2nd. While Justin has not been able to record a win yet, rides like the one he had over the weekend in Indianapolis show us that it will not be long before he checks that off the bucket list.

In Indy, Justin had an issue on the first lap of the main event and was buried near last to start the race. By the end of lap one, he was already up to 14th place and on the final lap he passed his teammate Mitchell Oldenburg to steal the final spot on the podium. It was one of the best rides we have witnessed all year so MotoXAddicts’ Chase Yocom caught up with Justin to talk with him about his race in Indy and more.
