In the opening round of the 2019 Women’s World Motocross Championship [WMX], Yamaha rider from Belgium Amandine Verstappen turned a consistent 2-2 day into the first WMX overall win of 2019 and the red plate heading into round 2. The Kiwi Courtney Duncan won the opening moto, but a massive crash while leading in moto two sent her back to 7th in the final moto and off the podium in 4th overall with a 1-7 day. Duncan continues to show that she is the fastest woman in the world, but she also continues to show that she has a hard time keeping the rubber side down.

Winning the final moto of the day was Nancy VanDeVen. Her 4-1 was good enough for 2nd overall while Larissa Papenmeier grabbed the final spot on the podium with a 3-3 day. The ladies left round 1 with the top four separated by just 5 points. The next WMX race will be in Portugal in May.
