At the 2019 Paris SX one week ago, Chad Reed went down hard in the final SX1 main event and broke two ribs. The age-defying Australian legend—who still finished 8th overall in Paris despite his crash—was committed to race both the Auckland SX over the weekend and the AUS-X Open in his home country in just two weeks from now. Unfortunately, after suffering through the pain in qualifying and crashing during his heat race in Auckland yesterday, the #22 pulled out of the event for the night.

Today, Chad’s wife, Ellie Reed, sent out an update from her Instagram account. “Last weekend Chad sustained injuries during the crash in Paris. He rode practice today in Auckland with 2 broken ribs. Anyone whose had this injury before knows how painful that is. True to his character, Chad Reed shows up. The level of disappointment and obvious set back is apparent. So rather than allow the sorrow to set in. He will fight back in true 22 style proving that no matter how hard you get knocked down he will always stand back up and try again! Your a warrior and your actions continue to inspire others with their own setbacks in life – WE NEVER GIVE UP.”

There is no word in Ellie’s update on whether or not we will see Chad in Melbourne for the AUS-X open on 11/30, but it sounds like there is still a chance that it will happen. At the very least, we can probably count on him to at least give it a try. For Chad and his hopes for continuing his career in 2020, every gate drop is an important one between now and Anaheim 1.
