With his 2nd place finish in the opening moto today of the 2020 MXGP of Pietramurata in Italy, HRC Factory Honda’s Tim Gasjer clinched back-to-back MXGP World Championships for the first time in his highly decorated career.
The man from the small but proud country of Slovenia won his first MXGP title as a rookie in the class back in 2016 and after not being able to defend his title in both ’17 and ’18, some thought maybe his maiden MXGP tile could have been a fluke. Well, after the #243 fought back to win his second MXGP title in 2019 and his third today in Italy, the word “fluke” will never be mentioned next to this champions’ name ever again.
With his one MX2 World title from 2015 combined with his three MXGP titles, Tim can now call himself a four-time World Champion and everyone else can call him one of the all-time greats. Congrats to Tim and the whole HRC squad on ruling the MXGP World Championship for the second-straight year. You guys earned it!
